Cupcake stand...for any occasion

Over at Shanty2Chic, Whitney made a great "antique cake stand". I just LOVED it. I have been eyeing cupcake stands for a few years, but just never found one that I really loved. I didn't like the wirey looks, if I wanted to do fancier cupcakes....SO...I knew this cake stand idea was perfect for me....with my own little twist.

I bought 2 hat boxes (I already had the biggest one) and the 2 candle sticks at Hobby Lobby. I found the round top at Michaels.

I decided that I could add different colors and textures of scrapbook paper to my cake stand to meet my needs...or a theme. Sunday night we had our baptism preview, so I added some scrap book paper that says CTR (choose the right). But Lil D has a birthday at the end of the month...so I can just take these off and go a whole different route with boy friendly scrapbook paper.

I cut my paper out into circles (the biggest one had to be short because a 12X12 sheet isn't big enough) and then I cut the center circle out with a slit so they easily slip on and off.

Then I used my E-6000 and glued the pieces together...

I sprayed the whole thing blossom white (I guess I didn't take a pic of it plain) and then added my scrap book paper...(the paper is not glued down...it just sits on it so I can change it out)

and then at the event/party...add the cupcakes.

(it holds A LOT of cupcakes...and I really could have put them closer together and got more on).

What I really love most, is the versatility. I can leave it plain white, or add any type of paper to add color or to pump up a party theme. And really...I can use it to display other food items or things too. Pretty sure it will come in handy over the next few months with lots of visitors coming to town and parties going on...should be fun!

Just something about purple...

On Saturday night, Mr. T and I went out to celebrate his birthday (which was yesterday...picks coming soon)...after dinner we went to the Gateway mall in SLC...he wanted to hit the Mac store...so I slipped in to Z Gallerie...ohhhhh....it was beautiful! I kinda wished it was my birthday because I for sure would have bought myself a little present...like this one...

(it's on sale for $30...I may go back and get it:)

I also LOVE these pillows...but I'm pretty sure I can make it, so I will save my $50 and buy myself some fabric with one of my 2 Joann gift cards from Christmas:)

My living room is accented with a deep purple. I have never been a lover of purple...but after adding the purple in my living room, I seem more and more drawn to it...of course the purple tablescape they had at Z Gallerie with the most gorgeous chandelier didn't help my purple love diminish at all...so...

while I was there, I decided that I need to also introduce some purple into my kitchen table serving stuff...I LOVE this purple beaded placemat. They are super expensive, but absolutely gorgeous...somehow I need to figure out how to make one for cheap...

Then there were the purple napkins and blingy napkin rings...

I will be making a set of each of these...seriously simple...the one above is sheer purple fabric with silver thread serged around the edge...the one below is just a purple satin napkin with jewels glued on...love it!

You should have seen (or you already have) all the great napkin rings...

A few of the colors were also on sale...I'm thinking I just may have to return this weekend to actually purchase some of these items...the ones I just don't think I can duplicate!

Besides that little shopping excursion, I spent the morning hitting a few thrift stores and an antique store...I left them all frustrated. I have 2 things in my head that I want and no one has what I want. So if you live in the Salt Lake area and know of a ornate mirror I can turn into a earring holder....or a single chair that I can makeover for my craft closet could you let me know...I don't want to have to wait until spring when the garage sales start up again...

A new obsession...

What a fun box to come home to after being gone for a few weeks...Mr. T left it all sealed up so I could open it myself...looks so great on my bed!

I also got the 4 pasta bowls (in the middle of this fabulous collection).

(they came before I left town and I have plans to use them more then once this week)

I'm eyeing the chip and dip platter...it may be on my birthday list this year!

Getting those pasta bowls made me want more serving dishes, etc...

so while "vacationing" at my mom's, I found this set of 12 water goblets on sale at Crate and Barrel for $21.95...they are currently on their way...

My sister and I hit the Crate and Barrel store in Bellevue (Washington...since there isn't one here in Utah) and I fell in love with a few other things that I NEED!

This adorably cute soup tureen...

with matching footed soup bowls...

of course, I would need a ladle too!

I about died when I saw this ramekin...why get plain white when you can have a pindot one...I NEED a set of these...

and if you don't know about my obsession with green...well, do these green napkins tell you anything about all things "going green" in my kitchen...

(I decided that I didn't need to spend $17 on 4 cloth napkins...I will be hitting my favorite fabric store sometime this month to see if I can find something similar to make my own...I NEED them for spring).

I am having WAY too much fun obsessing over kitchen items...it's a good thing I have decided I can't buy anything new till we makeover the kitchen and I know how much space I will really have for fun things like this. Yes, I know, I did buy the water goblets...but they come in their own storage box so I can safely put them in the pantry:)

Alright...I better get off the online shopping and get to the basement to begin the overhaul. Now that I am back from Seattle, it's time to finally begin 2010 and get the "cleaning out" underway...especially since most of you already have a 2 week head start:)
