My bike was found...but...

I can't get it back...yet. Awesome right?! A detective called Mr. T today and told him that there is a database that pawnshops use when they buy items. They enter the items they buy into this database with serial numbers (if they have them)...so this detective looked up my bike with the serial number we gave him and sure 'nough...that little punk that stole my bike had pawned it the same night...fortunately.

Unfortunately, he had taken my super cute pink water bottle holder off AND the clip thing that Lil D's trailor hooks onto.

The bigger "unfortunately"...there are laws that protect the pawn shops that buy "items" (stolen stuff) from the police just walking in and taking it. The police can put a hold on these items so that they can't be sold....and if they give the thumbs up...we can go and buy my bike back...nice huh...$75 and my bike can be mine...what? Of course, I could go after the punk for restitution. Or we wait... and if they arrest the kid and he is found guilty...the police can take my bike and give it to me...then the pawn shop can go after the punk for restitution.

The detective said he will talk to the DA tomorrow about what we should do...buy it back or wait...

I know it seems silly...a detective...a DA....all over my bike...and our tax dollars hard at work...BUT...this kid supposedly has a pretty long rap sheet...he is known for conning a lot of people, but they haven't gotten him on much...I think this detective would just like to have something stick to him.

Anyway...my bike is now safely in the hands of a pawn shop owner...until further notice. I just hope I can get it back before the weather hits 90....

OH...if you want something to be yours for FREE...don't forget to enter the tote giveaway...ends tomorrow!

Same thing happened when my car was stolen. We had to pay like 200.00 to get it out of some junk yard place. Oh--and the cops never told me it was found. I looked like an idiot when I went to get paperwork for taxes, and they told me my car had been found two months ago. NICE...this system is working I tell ya.

Funny...when my bike was stolen 5 years ago in Provo, the police laughed at me when I tried to make a report. When I insisted they let me report it, the assured me that they would not find it and that I should forget about my poor bike...
