My mom and youngest sister, Christi, drove from Seattle to Salt Lake on 30 December to spend a few days before the 3 of us and Lil D took Christi up to Idaho for her last year of college. My mom, Lil D and I would then drive back to Seattle where Lil D and I will be spending the next 2 weeks...that's all the trip was supposed to be...long but fine...well...
We arrived at Christi's apartment around 2:30pm, checked her in and started moving her stuff in (you can see cute pics of Lil D helping here). Her apartment was at like 58* (brrrrr) so we hiked up the heat and kept working...heater never came on...weird. I brought in another load of stuff and set it on the kitchen table when I noticed some red and blue "stuff" on the floor by the fridge...weird. I went over and thought to myself...something must be leaking...opened the fridge...nope nothing in there but some condiments and eggs....I opened the freezer....dear heavens what died in here? I closed it up quickly as the puddles of "red" on the floor began to increase in size. I walked back to my sister's room and said...something is seriously leaking from your freezer and well...can't you smell that? It was then that we realized the power was off...off I said...how long had it been off you ask? Well...the girls went home for Christmas about ummmmm 2 WEEKS AGO...oh yeah...that freezer stinks!
I sent Christi down to the managers office to let them know...she came back saying that we just needed to switch the breaker in the apartment and that somebody would come up to clean up the freezer. Forever later...and after realizing it wasn't a breaker issue in the apartment....no one came...so I sent her down again (she doesn't really like to be confrontational about things like this) and this time she came back with gloves and garbage bags and informed us that they would switch the main breaker...and then it began...the cleaning out of the freezer...I almost threw-up so many times. I'm sorry for sharing, but it was B-A-D!
Let me share what I was pulling out...'cause you are thinking, Hey, it's a college apartment what would be in there....frozen burritos...tortillas...chicken nuggets...bread? Oh no...you are WRONG...this freezer was FULL of the following:
Venison
White tail Deer
Elk---both ground and not ground
Whole fish
And I am talking about a LOT of this stuff...all wrapped nicely in white paper with labels and dates...well, it was wrapped nicely...until the power went out 2 weeks ago and now it has been sitting there...now it was...
soft.......warm.....and dripping blood and when I mean dripping I mean pouring out of that nice white paper and down the fridge and freezer and all over the floor. As I quickly pulled out the piles of meat I began to see the anger on the girl's faces when they returned to see daddy's latest kill in the dumpster outside the front door....serves you right daddy...leave Bambi alone!
Okay...so the manager finally shows up but only long enough to view the literal carnage before informing us that she is 5 months pregnant and the sights and smells are too much for her weak stomach....nice, wish I had that excuse. So my mom and I cleaned it all up...I mean...I was on the floor scrubbing....it was seriously SO gross. We borrowed some bleach and let me just say...pretty sure the ratio I was using was about 1: .75 bleach to water...smelt like a swimming pool in that room...better then the sewer smell from earlier. But we finally got it all taken care of...phew...
A little while later as we were getting ready to leave, I kept smelling that rotten smell and I couldn't figure out where it was coming from....thought maybe it was just stuck in my nose. We went to dinner (at my favorite pizza place in Rexburg...Craigos...yum) and I started smelling it AGAIN....I was so irritated...then I looked at the sleeve of my sweatshirt....yep, you guessed...big 'ol splash of blood from some helpless critter in the woods...right there on my sleeve...stinkin' up my whole day...awesome!
Note to girls moving out for 2 weeks...take it home or eat it up...the weather in Rexburg is unpredictable and power outages not uncommon in the winter with heavy snow. Note to me helping my sister move in...when you see red surrounding a fridge...run away!
So....do anything fun this weeked?

Man, I hope your sister paid for the pizza...I am just saying.
ewwww! there was this meat in our fridge for the longest time and i didn't know what it was, it was probably in there for months, i assumed it was jeremy's so i didn't bother it but it was kelsey's ex boyfriends elk meat, it was so gross!!! That stuff is disgusting when it goes bad(not that anything isn't)
lol... that is totally disgusting! Dripping blood on the floor? That means it was oozing for a long time... sounds exactly like something I would have done, awhile ago of course :-)
P.S. throw away your sweatshirt. Disgusting.
Agree. That is GROSS! Ugh. :-)
Ewwww! Gross. I can just imagine how bad that must have been. So sorry you got stuck cleaning it up.
